Our Communities

MOUNT PLEASANT

Respectful of our heritage and preparing for the future, this describes the City of Mount Pleasant. Located at the hub of Southeast Iowa, we are at the crossroads of two four-lane highways connecting major cities of the Midwest. This city is flush with hardworking and loyal employees, dedicated community leaders, numerous volunteers and interested citizens, all aspiring to make Mount Pleasant unique. We have worked to preserve our heritage, from Iowa Wesleyan University the oldest private coed college west of the Mississippi River; to the President Abraham Lincoln connection with Mount Pleasant Senator James Harlan; to the preservation of the boyhood home of world-renowned scientist Dr. James Van Allen. Splendid old homes and buildings are found throughout the older parts of town. The Midwest Old Threshers Theatre and Museum, the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion, and The Midwest Central Railroad bring the past to life, encouraging the celebration of our rural and small-town heritage during special occasions and every Labor Day Weekend.

NEW LONDON

New London is a quiet community nestled in between Mount Pleasant and Burlington and is the perfect place to settle for those looking to call a small-town home.  The city has a great school district offering grades K-12 and just completed renovations to Clark Elementary, the locker rooms, football field, grandstands, press box and added an all-weather track.  New London has several small businesses to meet all your needs from our general store to our chiropractor and everything in between including our meat market, local hair stylists, gas stations, medical office, optometrist, home décor store and post office.  The city loves welcoming new businesses and we want to help them find the right building and location for their endeavor.  New London recently developed five new residential lots that sold very quickly and with the success of that project the city is moving forward with developing an additional 28 acres for residential housing.   New London is everything you could want in a small town and so much more, the most invaluable part of the city is the sense of community you get when your visit here or become a part of it.
