Construction in the downtown has officially started and the downtown business owners have been busy putting together a calendar of events. It is more important now than ever before that we continue to support our downtown businesses. A strong downtown is what gives our community character. It creates a sense of “place” that attracts tourist, young people, empty nesters, a talented workforce and even bigger businesses to our community.
The businesses want to make the best out of the construction and have put together the following events.
•Shop Local Loyalty Program – For every $100 spent in the downtown you will get a chance to win a trip, prizes, and coupons.
•“Pie in the Sky” Pie Walk – Yes there is life in the downtown! May 2 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
•May Historic Preservation Month 1950s Business Tours – On May 23 the businesses are going back to the 1950s and portraying the business that was in their building at the time. Stop by and meet the business owners of some of our oldest businesses. Can you believe our oldest business in the downtown is 98 years old?
•Main Street OPEN – June 13 the downtown businesses will hold their first annual miniature golf tournament. Put on your favorite Hawaiian Shirt and grab a couple of friends or colleagues and come downtown for a night of fun!
•Prohibition…Lifted – The downtown is open!!! At the end of construction, we will be throwing a 1920s themed party in the downtown businesses.
Remember thriving small businesses create thriving communities. Quality of life improves throughout the community. This attracts more people to move into the community and more small businesses to invest in our downtown. The bottom line is when small businesses win, the community wins. Check out the downtown parking map for locations to park during construction.
